Around Výtoň 263 cottage: day trips near Lipno
The cottage stands in Přední Výtoň, nine kilometres from Lake Lipno, roughly a ten-minute drive. From there it's only a few minutes to the ferry at Frymburk, to the Tree Top Walk or to the ski resort — and under an hour to Český Krumlov or the Austrian Hochficht. A dense network of cycle paths also runs around the lake, so it's worth loading the bikes even outside ski season.
Frymburk and the ferry across the lake
Frymburk sits directly across the reservoir, about a five-minute drive to the ferry, which gets you to the far shore faster than any detour by road. In the little town you'll find a brewery, a few restaurants overlooking the water and a church on the hill above the square — good for a morning stroll or lunch on the way to the ski resort.

The Tree Top Walk
Ten minutes by car from the cottage, a timber walkway rises above the treetops to a viewing tower with a panorama over the whole of Lipno. The step-free route also suits a pushchair, and the tower has a dry slide for braver children. Allow an hour or two for the whole visit, including the walk up.
The ski resort and Lipno nad Vltavou
The hub of activity around the lake is the same ten minutes away as the Tree Top Walk. In winter a ski resort runs here with a six-seater chairlift and a children's park, in summer its place is taken by a bobsleigh run and a network of singletracks for mountain bikes. A flat cycle path also runs right around the lake, letting you cover a large stretch of shoreline in one go.

Český Krumlov
The UNESCO-listed town is about a forty-minute drive from the cottage — far enough that it isn't a spur-of-the-moment trip, and close enough that you can take in the castle, the castle garden and dinner under the arcades above the river Vltava, and still be back before bedtime.
Hochficht in Austria
The Austrian Hochficht ski resort lies about forty-five minutes from the cottage, just over the border. More than twenty kilometres of pistes and shorter lift queues make it a popular alternative to the busier resorts on the Czech side — good for a full day out or just a quick afternoon on the slopes.

Vítkův Hrádek
The highest-located castle ruin in Czechia stands at 1,053 metres above sea level, about a fifteen-minute drive from the cottage plus a short walk up. From the viewing tower, on a clear day you can see the whole of Lipno, Šumava and the Austrian Alps in a single sweep — worth bringing a camera.
By bike or on foot — set your own pace
The cycle paths around Lipno link most of the places in this guide into a single loop, so even without a car you can manage Frymburk, a stretch of shoreline at Lipno nad Vltavou and the climb to the Tree Top Walk in one day. The same applies to walkers at a slower pace — the forest tracks above the cottage connect directly to marked trails heading towards the lake.
